Small Business Saturday Celebration and Deal

By now, the words Black Friday and Cyber Monday probably have entries in the Webster's Dictionary. But here's why we believe Small Business Saturday is even more important than both of those.

You've likely heard the statistics. $68 for every $100 spent at a small business stays in the community versus only $43 spent at a chain. We employ locally too - I like to tease that we keep the Happy Helpers off the streets and out of trouble. But there's so much more to us than that - and at this season of counting our blessings, I'd like to share just a few stories.

Local Support - Over the past 12 years, we've taken ads in the local school yearbooks and programs and supported South Lakes High School with Christmas ornament sales and more. With your help, we have provided virtually ALL of the supplies for the Herndon Senior Center craft program for years. They, in turn, make cards and more to support our troops. Through our community outreach programs, we have provided desperately needed food and supplies to our local food bank and homeless shelter. And that's just a small portion of what we've accomplished together.

Personal Relationships - We've made friends here, and you've made friends with each other. We hear stories of friendships that began here leading to Thanksgivings shared together and rides to doctor's appointments. We've shared in important moments, too. Funerals and weddings - I've even officiated at both. These are not "business-as-usual" relationships. About 10 years ago, my 7-year-old son (at the time) came and played Christmas songs on his portable piano at our holiday open house. You were his first audience. He's now a senior and planning to attend college in music therapy.

I could go on and on about the importance of small businesses, because I have 12 years of stories. I hope you have your own stories to share about ways this place has, in some small way, touched your life in an unexpected way.

It becomes increasingly difficult to compete in a wired world, so we hope you'll remember that we simply cannot stay in business if you don't spend your crafting dollars here. That's the ugly truth. And that's why Small Business Saturday is a thing. Because all small businesses are having a brutally hard time making ends meet - this store included.

Please join us this Saturday to celebrate all the things that we are as a part of your community! American Express is no longer offering statement credits as part of the national event, so WE ARE! Stop in Saturday, November 28 and spend at least $10 (by ANY form of credit card or cash), you will receive one $10 coupon to use on merchandise in January of 2016.

Plus, we will have this adorable FREE Make-and-Take project for your enjoyment.   It's basically a party - a time to do something just for you in a busy time of year.  Please join us!

Impression Obsession Make-and-take and Kit!

Fall is here, and there are so many things to be greatful for. Why not come in on Wednesday, November 18th anytime between 10am-8:45pm to make a free card celebrating your blessings. The card uses a green frame with a softly stamped pumpkin/leaf background as well as a cornucopia colored with Copic markers. Color all the fruits and veggies or spotlight certain elements for a quick and easy card.

Love the card and want to reproduce it? We have kits available that include all three stamps as well as the paper and ribbon to create five more cards. The kits sell for $22.50. It is a great way to mass-produce cards in time for Thanksgiving.

Stamping with Gelli Plates for Neatnicks :-)

Last week, we got messy by stamping with the all-new mini Gelli Plates.  This week, we're going to try it again - this time with Ink Pads!!!  This is a totally neat (non-messy but also cool) way to use your mini Gelli Plates as solid stamps - great for creating backgrounds and frames.

In the past, we've been told not to use ink pads on Gelli Plates because they cause staining.  But now, there's a way to clean them off - and it doesn't harm them at all!

Join Angela Tuesday between 12 & 2 and find out more.  You are gonna love how quick and CLEAN this process is!

Fall Shimmer!

This card is impossible to fully appreciate until you hold it in person!  A couple of years ago, Tsukineko introduced the most brilliant metallic inkpad in silver and gold called Delicata.  It is a metallic ink that actually dries in a reasonable amount of time (unheard of!), and it almost has a raised appearance - like you lightly embossed it.  Simply stunning!

Well, hold on your your hats, because they have just released this same yummy formula in Bronze and Copper - and they are available in a convenient 4-pack mini-case.  Great for storage!

Stop in this Wednesday between 10 and 8 to really see how stunning this ink is (and to make a card for yourself, of course).  We'll see you there!

Last week: Pie. This week: Gelli :-)

The new mini Gelli plates are so much fun!  They are the perfect size for mounting to an acrylic block and using as a stamp!  Quick and easy fun.  For one of the cards pictured below, I added texture with a stencil.  For the other, I "kissed" the plate with an embossed piece of card stock.  Are you intrigued?  Have you always wanted to try Gelli Plates but were intimidated by the size and concept?  If so, this demo is perfect for you.  Stop in Tuesday between 12 & 2 and give them a try.  But I warn you - they are addictive :-)

Memory Box and Poppystamps

So many new dies....and stamps! I am sharing some card ideas to help inspire you in using the new products we received at the store. Of course, I had to start with one of my own cards:

Check out the ornaments you can make with the new dies. They even punch the holes for easy stitching:
